Swedana (often spelled Svedana) is an important Ayurvedic therapy that refers to sudation or sweating therapy. It is used to open the body’s channels (srotas), liquefy toxins (ama), and move them toward the digestive tract for elimination. It’s typically done before Panchakarma procedures like Vamana, Virechana, or Basti to prepare the body for detoxification.
Sveda = sweat
Swedana = the act of inducing sweat
It is a heat-based therapy used to relieve stiffness, heaviness, and toxins lodged deep in the tissues.
Sankara Sweda (Poultice Fomentation)
Warm herbal boluses (pinda) are applied to the body.
